MEET THE TEAM

Derek Williams, AACI P.App.

President

Derek Williams, AACI P.App. is the president and co-founder of High Rock Appraisal Group Inc. Derek has extensive experience in the commercial real estate appraisal industry having joined the Appraisal Institute of Canada in 2008 after graduating with Honors from the University of Guelph – Bachelor of Commerce Real Estate Management Program.

Derek became a fully designated AACI, P.App. (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute Professional Appraiser) in 2011 and maintains membership in good standing with the Appraisal institute of Canada.

Previous to co-founding High Rock Appraisal Group, Derek began his appraisal career at a private firm in Durham Region where he gained experience and expertise valuing a wide variety of properties under the mentorship and guidance of respected senior commercial appraisers.

In 2013, Derek became a Senior Appraiser Negotiator for the Regional Municipality of Durham. This role included overseeing property acquisition and disposition, valuing easements and other partial requirements, and managing expropriation proceedings. Derek has a thorough understanding of the Expropriations Act and has good experience providing expertise in Ontario Land Tribunal disputes. In 2019, Derek was presented with the Award of Excellence, the Region’s annual peer-to-peer award for his outstanding contributions on a major project.

After serving the public sector, Derek went on to establish Williams Appraisals in 2021, before expanding to High Rock Appraisal Group in 2024. Derek’s extensive experience within both the public and private sectors have provided him with a unique skill set, perspective, and industry experience.

Mallory Dawson

Director of Client Experience

Mallory Dawson joined the appraisal industry in 2022, and is in the process of obtaining her full AACI credentials from the Appraisal Institute of Canada as a Candidate Member.

Previous to co-founding High Rock Appraisal Group Inc, Mallory earned her Masters’ Degree in Library and Information Studies in 2010 from the University of Toronto. She specialized in Community Engagement Librarianship in public libraries for twelve years, gaining considerable experience serving all members of the public. Mallory also took this opportunity to develop her research, communication, and report writing skills.

In 2019 while representing the Whitby Public Library, Mallory was presented with the Ontario Library Association’s Angus Mowat Award for her innovative partnership program with the Town of Whitby. This award is presented to creative library programs that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the delivery of public library service.

Mallory brings her unique public service experience to High Rock, to provide our clients with the best possible customer service. Applying her advanced research, communication, and analytical skills, she enhances our market research, report writing, and data organization. Mallory is dedicated to lifelong learning and is currently working closely with Derek as his apprentice/candidate.
